Day of Dead for Chargers

Day of the Dead for Chargers, three division games in 11 days, one in 23, an egg laid, thrown and three losses in a row. It looked as if  November 2nd took the life out of the Chargers, it is Day of the dead, Dia de los Muertos, which is what the Chargers looked like in on Sundays, Fins Up Bolts Down beating 37-0, granting Chargers the largest shut out to date this season and being one of only three teams to have endured it along with the worst loss in franchise history since 1996. Add the last stretch of the season and your searching for any positives to bring to the table.

Adversity, character building, soul searching, ranting fans, total devastation in South Beach placing the Chargers with a rough road ahead to possibly see the post, yes this was a must win game, but it almost looked as if they had ventured a little farther south and ended up in the Bahamas or maybe confused with the time change. Fans even thought that the team  may have been kidnapped and Raiders had dressed as Chargers and to boot, they have another week to sit with it, not just 3 losses, but the exclamation of the embarrassing whopping.   Some even questioning the spirit of the players, the locker room, the coaching at how this could happen after a 5-1 start. Yes at 5-4, San Diego is up in arms and everyone’s got his or her two cents to throw in the pot. One thing is certain the schedule is not looking optimistic, nor has it since the commencing of the season.

Thirteen days without a game followed by 7 in 42 days with the first 2 after the bye are seemingly the most possible wins, come from two potential LA bound teams. Chargers will be hosting the Oakland Raiders then the St Louis Rams. The five that follow are all contingent play off teams @ Baltimore, vs. New England, vs. Denver, @ San Francisco, @ Kansas City and it looks as if the final 2 will also be fighting for their spots. Heavy! Yes, but try not to give up yet, if you’re a Chargers fan. The day of the Dead is to celebrate and give respect to those who have gone on, not to bury them, hang in fans and have faith in your boys!

It was Fins Up, Bolts Down

Quick Ugly hits from Miami, none if you’re a Dolphin, they were able to do just about anything they wanted on the field.

2:00 left in the half #17 vs. #17 and down 17-0, Chargers were unable to defend either line, no pass protection and no run, not when your lineman are on your side of the scrimmage. The second half went from bad to worse and delivered the worst loss in almost 20 years, comical tweets kept it light,

while others nailed them.
At the half, there was some silver lining, it could have been 35-0 Dolphins rather than 20-0, in part due by the help of Luiget getting a hand on a ball and breaking up a play, which held Dolphins to 3, vs. 7.

First game in all Phillip Rivers career that he left the field not scoring, that includes his College days as well, he had 3 INT’s and one fumble, It even appeared the Brett Grimes had been acquired by the Chargers in a trade. Rough loss on all counts, McCoy’s post interview on Xtra Sports was the most emotion filled and broken McCoy I’ve ever heard, essentially stating the truths, poor in all three phases of the game, loosing at the line on both sides of the ball. One more note, Rivers was pulled after a slight injury to his hand but, it was reported pulled because the game was out of hand. One more bad bit of news, Gates hurt his ankle, we will have to wait to see how severely, however, sending PMA to the most amazing TE ever.  Chargers Defense worst in the NFL in the red zone, and added to that record unfortunately to secure the spot.

A visual without execution is a hallucination.

The leaders of the team will need to right the ship, while the players and coaches will need to find solutions and fans will need to be patient in this long stretch. Injuries have been the Achilles heel but I think that with all injuries if you continue to win it provides positive energy however compile that with losses and I think a deadly combo, this team has character, fight and passion although somehow amiss on Sunday, they will find a way but, even if they do, it maybe too late, but remember any given Sunday. Alas, I’ll leave you with a lil bit of hope from the amazing Bobby Rubio.
Till next week!

Valley Center Battles Over RBV

Battle in Valley Center, Senior night for the Jaguars made for a perfect last home game for the season in their 28-23 win over the Longhorns, as the match up was on the ground, both Jacob Newman (Jaguar) and Alex Perez (Longhorn) ran their hearts out for their respective teams.

The Gilster's know football, HC Rob, wife Robin and son Jared, pre game on Senior Night

The first half was a back and forth battle and unfortunately with an injury for Longhorn QB Malik Taylor during their first possession, next man up was Matt Doyle who stepped in. Both Perez and Newman having 2 TD's a piece and RBV's Mario Diaz with a 43 yard FG in between.  Followed by an onside kick by the Jaguars which they recovered, but with no results as time ran out, leading the half was RBV 17-14.

The third was a defensive standstill, but the fourth granted excitement for all.  Newman with a 12 yard TD run, bringing the score to 21-17 Jaguars, with 4:43 left in the game, next possession Perez finishes the drive with a 2 yard TD, Jaguars blocked the PAT, bringing it to 23-21 RBV.  4:04 left, first play after kickoff Newman had an 80 yard TD run, brought it to 28-23 Valley Center. RBV with a four and out, turning the ball over on downs to Jaguars at their 48, Valley Center moved the ball down the field but took a knee at the 3 yard line, pretty stand up move. Although not a conference game both coaches had expressed an important match for both programs, Jaguars move to (4-4), while Longhorns (1-7).

Dynamite game tonight, both teams played with a lot of heart. Sending prayers and speedy recovery wishes to Malik Taylor as at the half he was taken to the hospital, I was advised a broken leg per RBV Head JV Coach, speedy recovery wishes!

Chargers Broncos AFC West Battle

AFC West Triple coming to a head in Denver tonight for Chargers, throwback Thursdays, records broken, horses with 509, keep a way and all to see who will grab first place in the AFC West, with a few memories looming and on a beautiful night in Denver, kickoff at 5:25PM PST.

Peyton took the record from Brett Farve on Sunday with 509 and then to 510, Phillip Rivers was the first NFL QB to go 5 straight games with a passer rating of 120 as well.

Chargers come in with a rough loss at home vs. KC, and endure a triple of division games all in a span of 11 days, tonight the biggest one.  With Chargers coming in with everyone picking the Broncos, actually historically this team does well on these notes.

Last year they came in as underdogs as well, do you remember the Phillip Rivers to Keenan Allen hurdle TD!  That followed with an excited QB on set with NFL Networks crew sharing his excitement like a pop warner player, his true Alabama self and somehow still innocent and all the love for the game came out and shined bright, with bolo ties and snake skin boots.  The last time these two met was close as well, and an advertisement for Omaha Steaks as that was the word Peyton was stuck on, ending not favorably for the Chargers.

Keep Away, Just as the Broncos players did with Peyton and his 509 game ball, that’s what the Chargers need to do tonight.  Time of possession and sustain drives, productivity, the ingredients which they have won with.  Defense will need to limit receivers, disguise schemes as they play chess with Peyton on the line.  Freeney will be hopefully greeting his former teammate on the ground, while the Chargers line will need to keep Von Miller and Demarcus Ware at bay and away from Phillip.  Contain the run as well as former Aztec Ronnie Hillman as he is getting his groove with 2 TD’s last week vs. SF.  Along with continuing to run the ball themselves and of course #Rivers2Gates always has a great ring with results, how bout that tipped TD catch!
Bolts continue to be ailing espescially with a short week and a must win division game but keep in mind secondary players will be the same as they were in the last TNF game and that ended with a win, Shaureece Wright and Brandon Marshall will mostly be the corners.

Injury update:  OUT: Flowers, Te’o, Matthews,  and Brown
Doubtful: Attochu
Questionable: Verrett, Williams

Broncos are pretty much running on all cylinders, with only Montee Bal and Omar Bolden out with Steven Johnson questionable

After the loss on Sunday, immediate panic for fans myself included, that the game would be coming at the worst possible time, however after sleeping on it, this may have been a blessing, plus everyone even dogs are picking the Denver. These are the games the  Chargers rise to and with that I’ll leave you with yet one more Bobby Rubio illustration.

I think they come out with a W and surprise this dynamic team in all faces at their home.
I know, I’m crazy, but they somehow match up well against Peyton.

Dynamite game wishes boys!

Chargers Division Triple

Chargers division triple kicked off!  AFC West journey commenced and is in transit, coming all within 10 days, three games and facing the entire division. One down two to go as Sunday they host a dangerous Andy Reid Chiefs team and venture to Mile High to encounter the Broncos on #TNF the ill fated #ThursdayNightBlowout have just changed directions and become some great match-ups as of late, but their loud just ask Philip Rivers. Familiarity scattered with both the next two opponents, as Chargers kicked off the trio of games with a big W in the Black Hole and are ranked number one by Pro Football Talk. A fair warning on my weekly, I have been struggling with a sinus cold or allergies, hence I’m off my game, just wanted to give you a heads up and also myself some lenience, I may not be smooth.

 #SDvsOAK

Raiders Week commenced with an egging on the team bus, but egg was on the face of the Raiders after the Chargers left with a 31-28 W, even a TV establisher of Alcatraz seemed perfectly appropriate. Big Win, any division game is a big win, this no different, the 0 and now 5 Raiders, played with a new found passion, led by Tony Sparano, the burial did work and had it not been for many dropped passes, I believe 5, the outcome could have been different. They broke Chargers 6 quarter scoring streak. If I was a Raiders fan I would be bummed, but happy that there seems to be something new brewing in that locker room.
Rivers breaking records all over, Rivers to Royal with his 5th TD of the year, Rivers to Floyd made it 14-7 and puts Malcolm as the leading receiver in the league, Rivers to Gates even tipped has a dynamite ring to it and run Brandon run, he did just that with over 100 yards a TD and into Pepsi Rookie of the Week, he did some heavy lifting.   Nick Novak could of broken John Carneys 29 consecutive Field Goals record, had it not been for the holding call on Ladraius Green on his 54 yarder, but he ties Carney at 29 now with a 30 yard FG in the fourth. Jason Verrett with the icing on the cake in his hometown with an INT and puts the Chargers at 5-1. But alas, more injuries Brandon Flowers and Eddie Royal did not finish the game.

#KCvsSD

This always scares me as I remember the first game I was credentialed to shoot games was vs. KC in 2007, I was flabbergasted by fans booing at the team, while I was on the field, this was a different era of Chiefs with Tony Gonzales and LJ in red while the Chargers were led by a Norv and AJ run team, although many similar faces, two big changes are the coaches. Andy Reid is almost perfect after the bye week, 13-2 and that’s what KC is coming off of, while San Diego beat the Chiefs last four meetings, the last two 2 key corners were out @ KC (41-38) and @ SD (24-21 OT) they were resting the team, both games 3 points. Rivers invited fans to come on out to the Q also had a pretty comical but super gracious interview on TNF at the half, from his home, however the sound was so blaring that it was impossible to catch at best every fourth word, he handled it like a true gentleman though.  Helix highlander and Silver Pig skin winner Alex Smith will be at the helm to lead his Chiefs team at the Q, this team may be   2-3 but they beat up a pretty good team in Foxborough on MNF, lets just say their opponents have been good not winless as the two last Chargers opponents have been.
KC vs SD photo ©desireeastorga
QUESTIONEABLE (for Sunday)
Flowers, Freeney, Verrett and Law.
DOUBTFUL: Attaochu
OUT:   Te’o, Matthews and Brown
PROBABLE: Fluker, Ohrnberger, Royal, Walker and Wright
Scary game but I think if Chargers can continue to use the ingredients they can continue to win, its just might be a nail biter. But this is a family I say it every week, everyone steps in for the common good of the team. It has been a source of power of motivation of inspiration and yet it's always just that, a team, and a family, which infiltrates into the community. They'll also be in their powder blues!

Then small breath and off to Tom Tellesco and Mike McCoy’s old homes, Mile High and facing Peyton and most likely he will have broken Brett Farves record.
Hold on! it's going to be a great week!
I'm out!  hitting the couch, tea, chicken soup and football, so I can get over this thing!

Chargers Ahead to the Black Hole

First shut out in the NFL, four in a row and down to the number fours, pink scattered throughout the field, players Mic'd Up, props from national broadcast and heading in to the Black Hole, I can here Ice Cube now, the difference the Chargers starting hot and proving their toughness along with admirers boast as they're first in the division along with tied with 3 with the best record in the NFL, even history and throwback Thursdays in the mix for Raiders week.
Chargers ground the Jets and deliver the first NFL shut out of the season, new stars arise, the run is back, most concerns amended as the Bolts head into the Black Hole with much deserving media attention nationally to another wounded animal, this one has had a ball burial with new interim HC. Phenomenal illustrations continue to pour out of creative Pixar artist and Chargers fan Bobby Rubio, while grabbing the attention of all. Just as the Chargers gain national attention on the field by Inside the NFL with actual west coast football love and admiration of their toughness.
Chargers get their 4th consecutive win at the Q Sunday, with temperatures only reaching a high of 110. I was fortunate to also be at the game, fans were in playoff mode it seemed, as ranting, raving and chanting commenced before even entering the stadium. Total domination over New York 31-0, they got the run going and they contained the run, Geno was pulled at the half, surprisingly he started with missing team meetings the night before, Vick was fed to the lions, with no first team snaps.  Chargers stuffed the two headed Jets monster run, containing Chris Ivory and Johnson to a total of 68 yards combined, remember this was the number 2 run in the league, let me re reference was! Rivers was almost perfect with 20 for 28 and 288 yards, 3 TD's and one pick, which defense recovered back immediately. Double Rivers to Gates TD’s has such an awesome ring to it.  Obviously Brandon Oliver made quite a hit with 182 all purpose yards and 2 TD's, (116 on the ground and 68 catch and runs). Nominated and winner of  the Pepsi Rookie of the week.
His former HC of University of Buffalo, Jeff Quinn stated something special about this 5’6” undrafted free agent, “Don’t ever underestimate the power of a man…………You can see the spirit of a man in his eyes.”
Few more tidbits for you, Nick Novak one away from tying all time record with John Carney with 29 consecutive FG's. Jarret Johnson and Brandon Flowers were Mic’d up for NFL Films, you can check it on Inside the NFL or Chargers.com.  Chargers welcome back Ronnie Brown to the squad, who after being released joins forces again with the Bolts after leaving Houston. Worries ceased in almost all facets, redzone efficiency, 4 of 5 vs. the week before 0 for 4. Third down conversions, 12 of 18 a whopping 66%, while keeping possession for nearly 39 minutes, special teams had all kinds of players in to return, that’s how often New York punted. However, the epidemic of injuries has not, even having fans send prayers via twitter.

#SDvsOAK

#Throwbackthursdays flood my thoughts, N.W.A. specifically Ice Cube Raidernation plays in my ears, even though this was when the Raiders were in LA, it has stuck.

Although Straight out Compton was my favorite album. The Black Hole has a few more elements to throw into the pot, as new interim HC Sparano having a burial of the first 4 games, or specifically a 0-4 start as a whirlwind of changes have happened in the bay since the annihilation in London. The hurt animal or character of the icon, lending probably the most outrages costumes from fans and a dream for TV establishers. Regardless of their record or woes or location, this is a rivalry game, and a division game with history since 1960, largest victories Chargers 1961 (44-0) and Raiders 1967 took it with (51-10). All time results including the post Raiders lead 59-48-2, but Chargers have had the longest streak spanning 2003-2009, all for not if you consider Superbowls, that’s where the Raiders take the cake and the rings, with 3 Championships. Oh btw, first time college game attendee Katy Perry, may be playing the SB49 half time show.

Chargers have an hour flight into Oakland for their first division game of the season. What they can expect from a Tony Sparano coached team, more physical, possibly the wildcat and a more commitment to the run. While rumors have hovered in regards to the friendship that Chargers HC Mike McCoy and Dennis Allen with confirmation that they have spoken all just amplified writers trying to find a noted story. Bolts have been coached amazingly all linemen on both sides of the ball have played all positions, all bringing the next man up motto to a flourishing result. Injuries yes are the worrying note, but good news Thursday on the report some optimism, game status questionable for Rich Ohrnberger and DJ Fluker, along with Malcomn Floyd, Jarret Johnson, Cordarro Law, Darrel Stuckey and Reggie Walker. OUT;  Donald Brown (concussion), Ryan Mathews (knee), Manti Te'o (foot) and Shareece Wright (knee), the remainders are all probable.

No matter the record this is always a good game, good rivalry and dangerous one. Raiders are playing with nothing to loose, playing for all their jobs, from coaches to players to GM.  Should be a fantastic game and something always weird happens, division game on the road. Could be close regardless of the records, these games always seem to have many bizarre elements, but I have faith in this coaching staff and the players with the Chargers family.

Heads up Chargers announced yet another sell out for the December 14th game vs. the Broncos coming two weeks after the Patriots sell out for on December 7th where they will wear their powder blues along with Oct 19th vs KC.

One more note, this is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, make sure to not just enjoy the pink accessories all around the field but to #Checkyourselfie, go check out my good friend and founder of Keep-A-Breast.org to learn more while challenging yourself and friends.

Dynamite week wishes!

Jets Run to Chargers

Chargers take their thirds, in the W column taking down the Jaguars, 33-14, third consecutive win and at the Q, as they host their third home game Sunday at 3-1 vs. the 1-3 NY Jets. Thirds are also in, as injuries compile in San Diego, pink and awareness brought to not just the field, but to the community, a broadcast appearance nationwide and even the third AFC Player of the Week awarded along with one more for the month, a theme of trios for the Bolts.

Pink scattered all over as you all know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month everywhere including fields all over football stadiums in the NFL, college and high school, players are clad in pink cleats, bands, gloves, its safe to say that pink is in abundance. However in San Diego, the Chargers have taken it one step further for the second year at the Q and quadrupled their efforts on a one of a kind event joining forces with Susan G. Komen giving free mammograms and breast exams to all in attendance that would be 700. Big props filled with applause to the Chargers Organization on going above and beyond with such an amazing event.

“Look at the pink house the Chargers built here today for the women of San Diego,” said Susan G. Komen Executive Director Laura Farmer Sherman.  “We expect 1,000 women will show up here today to get a free mammogram.  If anything is found on that mammogram, the Chargers and Susan G. Komen will step in to pay for everything that that women need.  (From) biopsies, MRI’s, ultrasounds, surgery, meal delivery if she has chemotherapy and free chemotherapy; everything that she needs.  That’s the power of pink.  The Chargers are the only NFL team taking the pink off the field and into action right here in our community.”

 #JAXvsSD

Chargers kept the Jaguars winless and took their third win, Phillip Rivers unbelievably good once again (29/39 with 377 yards and 3 TDS) along with his 24th consecutive game with a TD and with having two receivers with over 100 yards. Huge deserving congrats to AFC Player of the Month, Phillip Rivers! The fantasy combo of the week, once again, was Rivers to Royal for 2 TD’s, 5 for 105 yards. Malcolm Floyd with 1 TD, Keenan Allen had personal best with 10 receptions for 135 yards and made appearances on NFL Turning Point along with NFL Total Access this week.
Defense shined with three turnovers, two INTs, Eric Weddle and Brandon Flowers' crazy catch. Jarret Johnson popped a ball out and Donald Butler recovered. Defense had 75 total tackles, 3 sacks, 5 QB hits and 7 tackles for a loss with 3 pass deflections. Both Kendall Reyes and Corey Liuget were gracious in welcoming rookie QB Blake Bortles to the NFL. While were doing introductions, I have to share one of my new favorite illustrators, Bobby Rubio, not only a Pixar artist he’s a Chargers reared fan.

That’s three weeks in a row a Chargers player has been honored as the AFC Player of the Week, this week its Special Teams, congratulations to Nick Novak who kicked his heart out Sunday with 5 field goals (33’, 34’, 23’ and a 37’) plus 3 PATS, that’s 15 points of the 33 scored. Also, became the franchise's all time leader in field goal percentage!

Redzone, Run and Injury Plagued

The Achilles heel and fortunately there are no players with that injury however there are more than a practice squad of players on the injury report. The Cons unfortunately still the run with a total of 42 yards and keeping Rivers at the number 3 rusher for the team.  The continued inability to run will keep you from winning games, Period!!! The run to keep defenses honest doesn’t work unless you can, few more issues, with a third center in four weeks, to be expected, but at least 4 false starts in the exchange, fumbled snap most likely on Rivers.  Zero for four in the red zone and missed points on a turnover, but low and behold the Chargers keep winning!
Tom Tellesco, GM on the run and getting Mathews back. "The good thing is the offense as a whole is playing very very well, were moving the ball, were converting on 3rd downs and were averaging over 25 points a game, so those are the good things. It's week 4 going into week 5 and we still got a lot of things to work on and the run games one of them, but we need to get this thing clicking before Ryan gets back and when Ryan gets back we'll be even better at that point."
Hosting the New York Jets will be a hot one as the heat wave continues in San Diego along with an angry wounded animal, lead by Rex Ryan coming in to the Q possessing the second rushing team in the NFL, with 151 yards a game average. The two headed running Jets beasts, Chris Johnson (41 carries for 167 yards, 1 TD) and Chris Ivory (50 carries for 274 yards and 2 TD’s). Coming it at number 3 is QB, Geno Smith with 88 yards, Rivers has some company, and Smith also comes in with 5 INTs overshadowing his 4 passing TD’s. And hence one more issue for the Chargers to prepare for the QB controversy going on in New York, Geno or will it be Vick or will it be both?
Last three meetings, Jets with three edge over the Chargers by one and run again, yes Jets are 2nd in the league while Chargers are 2nd to the worst at 31st, NY defense 2nd to SD’s 9th, Chargers passing is 5th in the league, led by no other than the AFC Player of the Month.

Chargers Leaders

Passing:  Rivers - 96-137, 1155 yds, 9 tds

Rushing:  Brown - 50 car, 100 yds, 0 tds

Receiving:  Allen - 22 rec, 244 yds, 0 tds

With all the defects mentioned, I still think the Chargers find a way to win, as I have expressed, so much family so much team in and out of the locker room, there is truly something magical going on, even with injuries, players and coaches are rallying together with talent, passion, love and respect.   I'll finish with a pretty cool package done by Fox 5 on a 98-year-old Charger's fan who has only missed four home games since 1961.

If your headed to the game, stay cool, should be another hot one at the Q!  Dynamite week wishes!  I’m out!

Chargers host Win-less Jags

Busy week for the Bolts, fly home with a big W from Buffalo, injuries, transactions, photo shoots, an almost black out at the Q loomed and another AFC Player of the Week awarded to the Blue and Gold, as the Chargers get set to host a win-less Jacksonville team starting their first round pick, 22 year old QB, Blake Bortles for his premier start!

SDvsBILLS

Chargers have had all sorts of elements in regards to nature for the last month, from an earthquake to heat wave to wind and rain, not surprising and it didn't hamper them one bit. I'm not sure what stands out strongest to me from the 22-10 win vs. the BillsWeddle’s hellacious hit, Kendall Reyes 18 yard sack, Donald Brown touching the ball 36 times, of 61 total on the offense, carrying the ball for 62 yards. Malcolm Floyd with 98 receiving yards, Corey Liuget impressive defensive domination, Eddie Royal with 2 TD's, and the ever mobile foreman at the helm, Phillip Rivers with an unbelievable performance, 256 yards and 2 TD's. It was definitely a team win, however the W didn't come with out downfalls too.   Injuries, the second RB down in 2 weeks, and in my mind the most difficult to replace, sure handed, can catch, block and run, Danny Woodhead was injured after first carry, he will be sorely missed the remainder of the season. Manti Te'o also with a foot injury, out for 4-6 weeks.  Prayers and speedy recovery wishes to both!

It wasn't long before fans on twitter started to chime and try to recruit possible fits; this was during the game as well

Transactions

Busy day of transactions for Chargers that would be 10!! Signed LB Cordarro Law, RB Shaun Draughn and LB Kevin Reddick that's 2 Tar Heels, both Draughn and Reddick went to North Carolina. Placed RB Danny Woodhead on the injured reserve list. Released DE Lawrence Guy. Released CB Marcus Cromartie from the injured reserve list. Signed RB Marion Grice from the practice squad. (The Arizona Cardinals quickly picked him up on Monday). Re-signed LB Colton Underwood and RB D.J. Adams to the practice squad. Signed TE Dave Paulson to the practice squad. Waived S Adrian Phillips from the practice squad.

Welcome to San Diego !!

Shaun Draughn (pronounced Drone) joining his 6th team since 2011, with an average carry of 3.4 yards last season. Washington Redskins (2011)*, Kansas City Chiefs (2011–2012), Baltimore Ravens (2013) Indianapolis Colts (2013), Chicago Bears (2014) And as of Tuesday he is a Bolt, Draughn was released September 6th by the Bears, the selection you might question, as I was initially, why?? And that he has played on so many rosters. The silver lining is that he knows that many playbooks and surely is adaptable to be able to play. Fun tidbit he had his first running TD vs. the Chargers when he played for KC. Congratulations in order for dominating defensive force Mr. Corey Liuget, as he is the AFC Defensive Player of the Week, that's 2 Chargers players in two weeks, in case you’re counting.

A little break from practice for the players at camp Thursday, Chargers players bolted up or primped up with the Thursday Night Football production crew, all doing their ISO shots, for their coming #TNF game a month away at Mile High, #SDvsDEN.

A Blackout hovered all week in America’s Finest City, Thursday it was announced that by multiple local sponsors KFMB (CBS 8), Union Bank, Donovan’s Steak & Chop House, The Sycuan Band of Kumeyaay Indians and the Brigantine Family of Restaurants all joined forces in guaranteeing the game to be televised locally.

“We’re grateful for the support from our corporate partners,” said Chargers Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer A.G. Spanos. “Their support is making it possible for families from our local military bases to enjoy a great experience at the game Sunday. Their actions are also making it possible for everyone at home to see the team play.”

All over the NFL is Hispanic Heritage Month, its obviously no different in San Diego, Karina Iglesias, contestant on The Voice will sing the National Anthem, along with the team honoring San Diego natives Carlos and Linda LeGerrette with the NFL Hispanic Heritage Leadership Award for their long-standing community contributions. Jacksonville comes into San Diego being outscored 119 to 27, win-less at 0-3 and with the line at 13.5. Jaguars had only scored 1 TD in their last 10 quarters until Bortles connected with Allen Hurns for a 63-yard TD in the fourth last week, followed by a 10 yard score by Cecil Shorts III with seconds left in their 44-14 annihilation in Indy last Sunday. The team travels again for their 3rd away game with Floridian Blake Bortles to have his first start in the NFL.
"It was definitely good to get some game action before you go into the week of practice," Bortles said. "So I mean kind of taking it one day at a time, try to learn from everything, every experience, situation you get put in and move on."
I would say watch for 2nd round pick, Trojan stand out receiver Marquise Lee to be a target for the Florida reared Bortles, however as of Thursday, he’s on the DNP list with a hamstring injury, along with DT, Roy Miller, (ankle), TE Mickey Shuler (illness) and FB Will Ta’ufo’ou (ankle). There seem to be an explosion of injuries all over the league, more so than normal, or perhaps that’s what I always think, just seems more, hence why the practice squad is a revolving door first 3 weeks of the season, any given Sunday, so cliché but true on every level.

Chargers injury report Thursday, OLB Jerry Attaochu (hamstring), TE David Johnson (shoulder), C  Rich Ohrnberger (back), ILB Manti Te’o (foot) CB Jason Verrett (hamstring) and LB Reggie Walker all DNP (did not participate in practice, in case you don’t know). Noteworthy, Ohrnberger also was on the DNP list last week and played. David Johnson possible loss is more than meets the stats, his fullback and blocking ways are definitely needed with the slim back and new back situation.
Trap game, I know, hate the term as well, but just as the Chargers historically seem to beat opponents no one thinks they can, the shoe-in games are the scary ones for the fans. Especially with the team injuries compiling, next man up, yes one more idiom for you, why not through in one game at a time while I'm at it. Chargers should stampede the Jags, that is if they keep their eyes set on the game at hand, not project to the New York. I have confidence with McCoy and these players, this family, in keeping the focus on the field, in the moment and one play at a time. There is definitely something special going on at 2040 Murphy Canyon Road something that extends beyond practice, games or even in the locker room, it’s truly a special family!

Dynamite week wishes, cheers!  I’m out! Till next week.

Chargers Hot and Off to Buffalo

America's finest city is still buzzing after taking down the World Champs on an extremely hot, white and humid San Diego day at the Q, Chargers travel just under 5 hours with a 3 hour time difference to an unbeaten Bills team, a new baby born game day and an AFC weekly player crowned. Yes, despite all the predictions Bolts played keep a way from the Hawks and took 42 minutes of the game to a victory at the Q, where the temperature on the field reached 120, not to mention the humidity, which seemed to just invigorate the Bolts. Historically these seem to be the games the Chargers win, the ones, no one thinks they can.  By the way, at what temperature does a game become too dangerous to play in? Anyone?
After a rough start with the #MNF opener in AZ, a sea of white-hot Chargers fans welcomed Seattle with the team on the field winning all phases of the ball Sunday, even with out some key players, with Hardwick out for the season, Flowers hamstring and Jarred Johnson wife going into labor in the wee hours on Sunday, Bolts didn't miss a beat! Congratulations to Anna and Jarred Johnson on the birth of their second daughter Grace Anne. Quick notes on the game, a few missed flags, missed calls however, Chargers beat down while keeping possession 42 minutes 13 seconds,  along with 75 plays over Seattle's 30, it was hot and a Chargers white out at the Q. Rivers to Gates repeated not once, not twice, but three times in the end zone, the last one a phenomenal one handed catch clad by 2 Hawks, 7 receptions for 97 yards and 3 TD's.   Granting Antonio Gates with the AFC player of the week, #Rivers2Gates has a nice sound to it, especially if you’re a Bolts fan.  Chargers dominate Seahawks 30-21 and will fly northeast with a 1-1 record.

8 plays was the longest drive the Hawks had, this is a double edge sword in some ways though, amidst the heat where all wanting a turbin, Chargers defense were unable to stop Turbin. However, they controlled the ball for 42 minutes vs. one of the best defenses, Richard Sherman was an obsolete issue. Rivers was awing, taking hits and scrambling making plays happen all day, while tearing apart the Seattle defense, all the while rocking a 61 on his helmet for long time buddy and center, Nick Hardwick. He ran and threw over them, was 28/37 for 284 yards and one TD.
A few glitches, 3 times inside the redzone, chargers had holding calls, Ryan Matthews two fumbles that were recovered by the blue and gold, but brought upon one more injury, MCL along with more of the same issues, loosing the ball.  Actually in the stats he wasn't given credit for both?  I have had my doubts about his health and loose hands, but I don't with Donald Brown and Danny Woodhead.  That being said, one glaring statistic is the 3rd rusher on the team is Phillip Rivers, not known for his speed either.  With a total of 101 rushing yards a Sunday, 17 of those belong to Phillip.  Rivers locker room post victory, referring to all the media hating on Sunday Morning Countdown, always saying the Chargers aint got a chance, he finished with,

"We always got a chance!! Always gotta chance!!

Chargers on three!

CHHHHHAAAAARRRGERS!!!!"

#SDvsBUF

SDvsBUFsq Off to Buffalo, seen as one of the big surprises around the league, the Bills seem to have some magic going on. After a torrent of issues in the off season; the loss of Ralph C. Wilson, who founded them in 1959 (not just a loss for Buffalo but for the entire league), the diagnosis of all time great HOF Jim Kelly, the threat of the Bills being moved by interested buyer Bon Jovi to Toronto and even into the pre-season with doubts for the first string QB, EJ Manual. Buffalo has a new or a re-found enchantment which is filled with tradition, pride and an undefeated record. Jim Kelly announced he was cancer free, local billionaire Terry Pegula and family purchased the Bills along with keeping the team in Buffalo, Andre Reed inducted in the HOF and EJ Manuel finding his rhythm, (after some pre-season panicking and after picking up Kyle Orton for $5M), last week he showed everyone 32/48 for 375 yards, one INT and a rating of 95.4.  Add 2 phenom backs, Fred Jackson and CJ Spiller, who also had a 102 kick return in their 29-10 pummeling of Miami. Oh and don't forget their number one draft pick, Sammy Watkins, who did participate in practice Thursday and former Trojan, Robert Woods (did not participate Thursday). Defense was plus 4 on turnovers as well, remember they also beat the Bears in Chicago, who just went to SF and beat the Niners. This will be a dangerously passionate game.  Chargers will need to be able to run the ball and stop the run, two things they have struggled with, (ranked 27rd in the league for the run at 76.5 yards). Working as a team, a family on the field has not been one of their issues, but a blessing, as they have a family in the realest sense. Kick off is at 1:00 PM EST, or 10:00 AM for PST, it's a morning game for Chargers.

Statistically speaking

Head to head last 2 of 3 have gone to the Chargers;
12/11/11        SD 37 BUF10
10/19 08         SD 14 BUF 23
12/3/06           SD 24 BUF 21

OFFENSE
SD 19th          BUF 17th
DEF
SD 18th          BUF 21st
PASSING
SD 8th             BUF 26th
RUSHING
SD 27th         BUF 7th
Note worthy on the Injury report as of ThursdayFlowers,  Freeney, Luiget and Davis;  FP, full participation.  However; Ohrnberger, back (who is in for Hardwick), Attaochu (hamstring) , Troutman (back), Ingram (hamstring) and of course Matthews (knee) DNP = did not participate in practice.  Chargers OC, Frank Reich very familiar with Ralph C. Wilson Field, as still the longest back up tenure to Jim Kelly, let me refresh your memory, 1998,coined "the comeback" Kelly suffered a strained ligament in his knee. Reich finished and led the upset, then taking them to the AFC Championship game vs. Miami.

One more bit of specialness, Junior Seau was nominated to the Hall of Fame, earlier this week.

Dynamite game wishes to the Chargers, should be a good one!! Sending dynamite football week wishes to you all!

 Cheers, till next week!

Chargers to Kick Off on MNF

Final cuts, flip-flops and a Monday Night Football opener, just a few things going on in San Diego this week.  Same team different state, Bolts fly to Phoenix for the NFL 2014 Monday Night Football opener. Yes, they just hosted the Cardinals August 28th, edging over them in the final fourth pre season game 12-9, Chargers, but it was the battle of the two's, three's and four's to make the squad, so let's start with who made the cut to the 53 man roster ,  for a keener look here's the depth chart.  Congrats to undrafted free agent from University of Buffallo, Brandon Oliver, yes number 43, taking a spot after impressing all.

700 plus players released collectively all over the league on Saturday, 300 will get work on practice squads or have already, which will be a revolving door for the first 3 weeks.  Chargers practice squad announced, with three little pops actually four, one sixth round pick, Marion Grice had a crazy 48 hours, made the roster Saturday, was released and then signed to the practice squad Tuesday. Two, newly released Cardinal and former Aztec, Ryan Lindley was signed to the practice squad, with heaps of media questioning the match up just ahead.
Coach McCoy was adamant in interviews indicating that there is no connection,"We didn't make the choice because we're playing AZ, you can highlight it, bold it or underline it!"
Third, shortly after being released former Chargers and Stanford, Thomas Keiser joins a new Cardinal in Phoenix.  Fourth, Chargers 2011 3rd round draft pick Vincent Brown was released, however it is side noted, per www.Chargers.com,  It is important to note that Vincent Brown was waived-injured, and should he clear waivers will be placed on the reserve-injured list.
Tom Tellesco on Darren Smith Show on Wednesday spoke on difficulty in picking the WR's
"Tough decision and we have a lot of respect for Vincent and how he played for us……."                                                         When asked was it more about what Inman and Tutu did or what Vincent didn't do, he replied, "More about what the two (Inman and Ajiritutu) did…."

MNF

#FBF #FLASHBACKFRIDAY I can't not but think of Michaels and Madden, which sadly is no longer the MNF I grew to love!
AlMichaels&JohnMadden
#FBF #MNF Madden & Michaels
Granted I think Cris Collingsworth has done an amazing job, but that moved to Sundays. Still Monday Night Football sets the stage for the entire world, the only game going on, hence all the attention as ESPN's crew Mike Tirico, Jon Gruden and Lisa Salters hold it down with an entire studio slew of former player, commentators Chris Berman, Stuart Scott, Mike Ditka, Keyshawn Johnson, Cris Carter, Tom Jackson, Steve Young, Trent Dilfer and Ray Lewis.  If your a Chargers player or fan, this ideally will be the first stadium of the season and the last one, as University of Phoenix is the home for Super Bowl 49.  Chargers hold the all-time record over the Cards 9-3, however Arizona comes in as the 3 point favorite for Monday.
Familiarity from week to week with also former Chargers and Jet, Antonio Cromartie and one of the best run stops in the NFL last season.  Chargers secondary will need to watch out for Cardinals 2nd pick in the 3rd round, WR John Brown, Pittsburg State, At the 2014 NFL Combine, he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.34 seconds, which ranked as the third-fastest time of any player at the event.
“With this long and then playing Monday night, that’s always the challenge as coaches (to) just keep it simple and stay to the basics,” Frank Reich said.  “We’ve been waiting for this game for a long time.  So I think we’re pretty honed in.  I think we’ve been narrowly focused and have had a good idea all along how we wanted to attack.  We’ve really tried to get the plan in place early so we could focus on fundamentals, technique and just playing good football.   Play good sound football, run your basic stuff and win your one-on-one matchups. At the end of the day that’s what it comes down to.”
Few key odds and ends, first this is a must win for the San Diego Chargers, they have a history of starting slow with games and struggling early in the season, however they finish strong with a force when they become the underdogs.  Phillip Rivers last year stats in the redzone, 22 TD's 1 INT, the run, 8 redzone TD's, 5 of those Ryan Matthews with a 2.5 yrd per carry average.  New face to San Diego, Donald Brown with an average of 4 yards per carry in the redzone. This could mean nothing or could be a deciphering factor on who the number one back will be, as Matthews has a history of losing the ball, just as he did in the opening pre season game on the goal line, while Brown has not fumbled since 2009.  This, once again, is a must WIN for the Bolts kickoff at 7:20 PM PST, as they need a quick start out of the gate and will turn around and host the SB48 Champs, The Seattle Seahawks 6 nights later for their home opener, a #SNF  WHITE OUT!

Injury Report as of Friday

Good news full participation for Nick Hardwick and Keenan Allen.

Huge congratulations to the 37th member of the Charger HOF DE,  Leslie O'Neal!!
It's safe to say that San Diego is ready for some FOOTBALL and possibly Tostitos, too!
thx.chargers
Dynamite week wishes on a packed Sunday of football as you wait for the first #MNF of the season, a double header commencing at 4:10 PM PST with NYGvsBUF ! Enjoy ALL the football this weekend!
