It's Not What IF, It's What is..........

LOOKIN AT THE TIE BREAKER SCENARIO

Last Monday, after the Chargers lost in Detroit,
I started looking at the record.  Even more closely, wondering.....
How they could be out of it, even for a tie breaker?

I came up with a new and possible story line.

If Chargers beat Oakland
and Kansas City beat Denver
All 3 would be tied at 8-8
The division would be tied at 3-3
and in the conference
the Chargers would be be the winning team at 7-5,
while Broncos and Chiefs would be at 6-6........

HOWEVER, the NFL tie breaking rule is as such
per NFL.com  http://www.nfl.com/standings/tiebreakingprocedures

Three or More Clubs

(Note: If two clubs remain tied after third or other clubs are eliminated during any step, tie breaker reverts to step 1 of the two-club format).
  1. Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in games among the clubs).
  2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the division.
  3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games.
  4. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
  5. Strength of victory.
  6. Strength of schedule.
  7. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
  8. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
  9. Best net points in common games.
  10. Best net points in all games.
  11. Best net touchdowns in all games.
  12. Coin toss

Which still doesn't make any sense to me.  I wish I could call Roger Godell and ask, why.....?

Regardless....It is what it IS!!

One of the reporters at Charger Park yesterday asked Norv, if he agreed with the tie breaking method the NFL has.   He replied, "he hadn't taking a lot of thought in it and best deal is obviously not to be in a tie breaker."

BREES CROWNED WITH NEW RECORD

CONGRATULATIONS
TO
DREW BREES

Last night Drew Brees surpassed Dan Marino's single season passing record made in 1984.  5087 PASSING YARDS IN A SINGLE SEASON with one game left in the regular season!
Are you kidding!!!!

Ironically enough as, CHARGER fans looked on, it was broken by two former San Diego players.
The 9' TD pass to Darren Sproles, put Drew up on the Record books,  Marino's record for 27 years from back in his 2nd year in the NFL with the Miami Dolphins.

The league has changed as you know it has become a quarterback driven league, but still.........5084 PASSING YARDS!!

This accomplishment, as spoken by Brees in post game locker room was a total Saints Victory, from the equipment managers, coaches, owners, O-line, D-line, all the receivers and backs, no one was left out.

A class FULL gratitude speech from a special player.

Congrats Drew!
screen shot from NBC sports, per AP & Reuters photographer Sean Gardner

Many Charger fans continually are bitter that these 2 players were left out not to mention Michael Turner, also on the field last night.  I don't believe that Brees would have flourished as he has in New Orleans.  There is something special that happened in that city after Katrina.  I think of it as the Island of Misfit Toys:  Payton, Brees, Shockey and the city came together with chips on their shoulders, all rejected for some reason or another, some special ingredients..........& lots of LOVE.

The love wasn't here in San Diego, it couldn't be.....and as the phrase speaks,
Wasn't meant to be........

As for Michael Turner, LT was in great form and would have continued had it not been for the release of Lorenzo Neal, look at the stats!  Turner needed to be the #1 back, too!

Also on the note of Sproles, well, I'm right there with you!  He is NOT an up the middle back as was illustrated in last year at SD..........Boy are his returns missed!!.............Sean Payton has used his strengths, I think an ingredient he has done with the entire team....

CONGRATS AGAIN TO THE NEW ORLEANS SAINTS &
CAPTAIN.....DREW BREES

HOPE IN SAN DIEGO

A WIN IS A WIN!!!

San Diego came out Charging on Monday Night Football!!

HOPE
HOPE
HOPE

Although it was a 3-8  struggling Jaguar team, stakes were HIGH, for both.
A dangereous Monday night platform;
new coach, new owner and job security on the line for everyone on and off the field,
the ingredients for a
A TRAP GAME.

The same was true on the other end of the field, but

Lightning Bolted & Jolted

Rivers had best performance 22-28, 294 yrds & 3 TD
Mathews 13 carries for 112 yds, 1 TD ( 2nd consecutive 100 plus yard game)
Floyd 4 for 108 yrds, 1TD,
Vincent Jackson, 4 for 72 yrds, 1 TD
Antonio Gates, 6 for 70 and
Vincent Brown, 1 for 22, 1TD
Eric Weddle with 4 tackles and a pick
and Takeo Spikes leading with 9 tackles and Donald Butler just behind with 8.

All and all a full 60 minutes of football.

But more importantly, they WON!
Its also CONTAGIOUS!
Hope is in the air!!
And if your a Charger fan, your sleeping a little better tonite along with a big smile.

I won't  go in to any negative notes on the wins and the opponents, this team needs all and only the GOOD that will breed more positive and good.

FELT LIKE I WAS IN A MOVIE

It's like I stepped on to the set of INVINSIBLE.

I should say a field......
minus the rain,
minus the cars lighting the field of dirt
and of course minus the older never "had beens"......except Vince.

While walking I stumbled on a group of NFL Players practicing up the street from my house at my local high school football field.

What I saw was a group of kids playing, the fun and smiles all over their faces, practicing, drills and even some mock scrimmages.

What I learned is they, we're all but one, 7th round players, or free agents.

That no attitude was brought to the field, only heart, love for the game and determination.  Somehow the business side wasn't there......no agents...... only a group doing what they loved.

This group including players from several NFL teams, including Super Bowl Champs (Packers) Patriots, a Dolphin & even a Raider, not to forget, a handful of free agents.

How and why was this group collected........listening and researching I saw some connections.

Players were connected, via high schools, colleges, roommates as rookies but all with the commonality of wanting to play their dream game and prepare.

Made me smile inside every day I walked by, even the day I shot photos.

Again, I was refreshed by no twitter or web address.  He has promised to keep me posted, so as soon as I find out I'll post.

Unfortunately our 3rd guest,

GO SKATEBOARDING DAY

After a morning of work, headed out to enjoy the official "GO SKATEBOARDING DAY" 6/21/2011 (Another known common date: Summer Solstice but in Baltimore its Bucky Lasek Day!)

Everyday should be #goskateboardingday but with my schedule its tough to realistically make that happen.

Hit up Blockhead for my ideal session, backyard yard bowl style, jiving to the blues with the Brixton Crew, Dave B, the hubby and Joe "Peach" set in the gully with trees over growing---sick setting!

Nontheless, made it out to sk8! Been a slow couple of years with a lot of medical issues and an 18mm bulging disc for the past 5-6 years, but had a blast!  Got some lines and grinds, the hubby grabbed this one of me.

Even Rocker & Maestro (aka; Slappy) came down to enjoy.

Hit up Bulltaco for lunch/dinner, a lobster & a scallop taco & chips.... to the casa and then headed over to Bucky's.  Sesh en tow...when I arrived.......serious ripping going ons..........

Not sure what Hewitt or Tom ate before they arrived but they were on fire.....Motley Crew/ Dio/ metal madness playing compliments of Pandora

Oh, and the other one "why be a nurse when you can be a doctor".

Today has been one of those mornings, all the phone calls lined up and has created a good buzz.

We were honored to have Bucky Lasek on The Starting Line Up on KKSM 1320 AM Thursday May 19th, 2011.  Amazing skater, person and friend.

A mere two days before the Pro-tec Pool Party, actually during qualifiers.  Truely thankful he made the time to come on the show.  My apologies on the technical delay.

Hear how this year is different for Bucky and what else he has his hands on.
